My lecturers at Portsmouth College of Art gently pushed me into Graphics/Typography. I thank them all for seeing that spark in me…

A little MacSE turned up in my 2nd year. Oh Joy! No more hand rendering typefaces. I spent that summer scanning in Hot Metal Fonts we had laying around at college and turning them into Bitmap Mac Fonts. Gotta love Fonts.

Final year at college, I got itchy feet and went up to London to hang out in some real design companies. Learnt loads, came back to Portsmouth, chucked out three years of work in my portfolio and reworked all the projects in a loud music fuelled week.

Unbelievably passed the HND qualification, got an interview in London and got a job. That was 1987 to 1990, great print project years working for Jason, and his company Spirit. He taught me quality and I taught him how to use a mouse on a Mac.

Dip in economy, Spirit disbanded and I went freelance. Loved it for a few years. Then in 1991 I met a few guys into this stuff called Interactive media. Interesting.

My pernickety graphic attention and Dereks Collies talent at coding led to the formation of our company called Sahara creating interactive things. Other genius individuals involved in this were Matt Proud, Michael Newman, Todd Brunner, Marc Goblot and Bryn Purvis. Intense years from 92 to 99.

Freelance ever since, and continue to develop as the digital media landscape does.
